Established in 2022, our mission is to unite individuals in Southeast Los Angeles who share a common interest in Amateur Radio, fostering the exchange of information, mutual cooperation, and the advancement of radio knowledge and operating skills.
We are dedicated to promoting activities and programs that support the growth and welfare of Amateur Radio within our community for free.
We proudly operate under our club call sign KN6TZH – that’s Kilo-November-Six-Tango-Zulu-Hotel on the airwaves! A call sign is like your radio “name” – it identifies who you are when you’re transmitting.
Join us as we explore the world through electronics and waves. KN6TZH – standing by and having a blast!

Who can join the Youth Amateur Radio Club?
YES! Children who sign up for our youth amateur radio club must be currently enrolled in middle or high school. This age requirement ensures that students have the necessary reading, comprehension, and technical skills to engage with the materials and concepts of amateur radio.
What is a call sign?
A call sign is a unique identifier assigned to a licensed amateur radio operator or club by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). It’s like a radio “name” used during communications to identify who is speaking. For example, our club’s call sign is KN6TZH, and our president’s personal call sign is KN6OUR.
Is any prior experience required?
Not at all! No experience is needed to participate in our workshops—just a willingness to learn and explore new skills.
When and where are the workshops?
Workshops typically land on Saturdays at 10:00 AM at the Bell Tech Center.
Who leads the club?
The club is led by President Cesar Zaldivar-Motts (KN6OUR), who holds a General Class amateur radio license issued by the Federal Communication Commission or FCC. He’s also a trained and registered instructor by the national American radio relay league (ARRL).
What is amateur (ham) radio?
Amateur radio is a hobby that lets people use radios to communicate across town or around the world. It’s a great way to learn about technology, build communication skills, and help during emergencies.
How much does it cost to join?
Membership is completely free for youth participants.
What is ARRL Field Day?
ARRL Field Day is a national amateur radio event held each June. Our club hosts a special open house and workshop during this event to give students and families a hands-on experience with radio equipment and emergency communication practices.
Who can I contact for more information?
