SCDC and partners held a press conference last Friday at Pacoima Charter Elementary School to announce the $2.3 million Los Angeles County Regional Broadband Consortia (LACRBC). LACRBC is a county-wide project dedicated to closing the digital divide in Los Angeles by accelerating broadband deployment, access, and adoption with funding from the California Advanced Services Fund established by the California Public Utilities Commission.

The LACRBC was joined by State Senator Alex Padilla in making the historic announcement that Huntington Park (Pacific Blvd), El Monte, and Pacoima will now be a wireless community. SCDC has also opened 10 public computer centers in the Southeast area in the last three year, including the latest at Bell Technology Center, made possible by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education and partnership with the City of Bell and Youth Policy Institute.

Pacific Blvd in Huntington Park will be one of five wireless Los Angeles communities in LACRBC via Wi-Fi networks known as “Neighborhood Clouds.” The other communities are Pacomia, South Central Los Angeles, Rosemead, and Gardena.
